과연 감동이란 무엇인가?

뇌리에 강렬히 남는 전시 중 하나는 리움에서 열린 히로시 스기모토의 전시였다. 어두운 방안에 늘여놓은 바다 사진 연작이 나를 붙잡았다. 그 전시장, 어두운 방에 길게 뻗쳐있는 수평선을 전시장이 닫을 때까지 막연히 바라보며, 각인되 듯 남아있는 그 감각은 참 익숙하면서도 낯설었다. 사실 그 작품은 그 전시 전과 후에 몇 번이나 감상할 기회가 있었는데, 지금 아무리 생각해보아도 그때의 강렬함 만큼은 못되었다. 왜 그 순간만큼은 그것이 확연히 다르게 느껴졌을까? 질문과 해답이 꼬리를 물며 내 스스로 공명하게끔 만든 그 감각은, 다시금 그 순간이 아니면 리바이벌 되지 못할 것이 분명했다.

what is 'a impression'?

One of the exhibits that remained intensely in mind was the exhibit of ‘Hiroshi Sugimoto’’, who was held in Leeum. A series of sea photographs caught me in a dark room. It was unfamiliar and strange to see the horizon, I stayed until the exhibition closed to see pictures. The photograph had a chance to appreciate it several times before and after the exhibition, but no matter how much I think about it now, it was not as strong as that time. Why did it feel different at that moment? It was clear that the sensation that caused, would not be revived without that moment.
